Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 2:31PM We had a great time at the NYC Regional! While there were many technical difficulties, (RIP to one of our Jaguars) we still managed to come through in the end. On Saturday, because of our second to none defensive strategy, we landed in FIRST place! We hoped to keep it that way, and everything looked promising. Every time our robot went in the pit area, it was worked on. Unfortunately, since time flies when your having fun, matches just kept creeping up halfway through a solution. We did not have a single match where our robot was fully functional on Saturday. Cold Fusion (Team 1279) showed their gracious professionalism (for the millionth time) by helping us out with the programming.
By the time the arm was working perfectly, it was our last game, and our drivers could not resist the temptation to try out the new and improved arm & grabber. Perhaps this was where we went wrong. It was either match 59 or 74 when our driver was so focused on offense, he completely forgot about defense. We were on the red alliance, and the score was 6-0(we were in the lead), ....but then, one sneaky bot crept up to the podium and his minibot shot up the pole faster than you can say whoa! Now the score was 6-30,which meant we had lost, and so we dropped to 15th place. I believe if we had won that game, we would have landed in the top 8, and been able to select our allies, but because of that game we became the top runner up instead.
It was a lot of fun while it lasted and we had a GREAT time to say the least. Our minibot was not working, but that will be taken care of sooner than later, and then we will be unstoppable! See you during the post-season matches! -Narcisse
"In Logomotion, offense is overrated. Defense is the name of the game. "
Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 12:14AM Gracious Professionalism is the name of the game people. Cold Fusion Team 1279 helped Spartan Robotics Team 1340 to get the mecanum wheels going. Not surprisingly, its not the FIRST time we've received helped from them. There was a game last year where would not have been able to compete if it wasn't for their gracious professionalism!.....and thats the beauty of FIRST!
Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 8:35PM Problem: New DAP-1522 Wireless Bridge/AP would not let us configure the wireless settings as shown in the manual. Instead it would just have an empty spot where the settings should be.
Attempt2Fix #1: Upgrade firmware to latest build.
Result: Did not work
Attempt2Fix #2: Use a different browser. We were using firefox, so we tried using IE.
Result: Worked!
"Don't let go of that stupid thought, it just might work"
Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 8:35PM Whoever takes the center postion could have blocked that spot, but then who would return the balls scored? If 2 people are in the middle, then who would be there 2 score? It would take an EXTREMELY good defensive robot to completely stop them from WINNING, and I have yet to see a robot that good. GREAT JOB team 469.
Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 8:28PM Taking a page from advertising strategy, DARPA is hoping to get ‘em while they’re young. The military’s mad-science wing wants various organizations to put manufacturing equipment in 1,000 high schools around the world, part of a new program called “MENTOR” — Manufacturing Experimentation and Outreach. The partnership will include new prize-based challenges to inspire a new generation of defense manufacturers.
President Obama has been pushing to increase student interest in science and engineering, announcing earlier this week that he wants 1,000 new STEM teachers. The MENTOR program addresses that need, but it’s also part of DARPA’s Adaptive Vehicle Make program, which is intended to speed up development of future defense vehicles.
